YourTech is reporting that Google Desktop is now available for Macintosh. Whilst this has clear privacy concerns, this is certainly good news for those of us who wish to allow algorithms to sort our data, rather than manual (time-consuming) intervention.

One thing that YourTech’s article did strike me, though:

There’s some nice twists here. If you delete a file, for instance, the Google software can retrieve a cached version so you don’t have to recreate it from scratch.

As far as i’m concerned - if i’ve deleted a file, there’s a reason why i’ve (securely) deleted it — I no longer want it on my file-system. For Google to cache a copy of this file concerns me. I hope this ‘feature’ can be turned off?

Concerns aside, this is a very positive move forward for the MAC community and Google.
